Globe Journal from Nepal
Global Exchange and dZi - in conjuntion with the Tibetan Handicraft Industry - worked together to create this recycled gift card set. Proceeds from purchases of dZi's products benefit both individual artisans - the producer groups they work with and the Tibetan refugee community in a diverse number of ways. THI produces elegant hand-made paper products for dZi/Tibet Collection using the inner bark of the Daphne Cannabina bush - locally known as lokta. It has a unique characteristic of regenerating itself every 4-5 years after the bark has been peeled and cut away for making paper. Lokta is harvested in sustainably managed forest areas - thus preserving the fragile forest ecology of Nepal while providing gainful employment to local mountain people. THI employs several hundred people to gather and process the lokta fiber - as well as to create fine finished products. The process of silk screening was used to achieve the Global Exchange-inspired golden globe design on each journal. Pocket journals are offered in your choice of Red - Navy or Purple.
